Description

What is a Handicap Time Trial?

It's run like a normal Time Trial, the difference being handicaps are applied to the riders time after they complete the course. Eg. If a rider completes the 10 Mile TT with a time of 23:45 and had a handicap of 3 minutes and 10 seconds, then their handicap time would be their race time of 24:20 minus 3:10, to give a time of 20:35.

How do you get a handicap?
Handicaps are generated from results of previous TT training and racing sessions. The more sessions you complete the more accurate your handicap will become.

What if I don't have a handicap?
If you don't have a handicap then your race time will still count. Once you complete at least one training session or races you will have a handicap, the more sessions you complete the closer your handicap will relate to your ability.

Can I draft?
No, drafting will get you disqualified from the podium and it will also reduce your handicap! Ensure you have at least 5 meters (approx 3 bike lengths) between yourself and the rider in front at all times.

Collect you transponder at 4:45pm, ensure you are warmed up for a 5:00pm TT start.

Sprint Distance and Pairs riders can take part in the session, but they will not have a handicap, and there will only be a podium if we have at least 3 entries.

Riders require front and rear lights, there will be some available to borrow.

Please contact membership@goldcoastcyclingclub.com.au if you need to reserve a set of lights.

Please ensure your lights are fully charged.
Participants will be released one at a time for a 10 Mile Time Trial, this translates to 16km, so make sure you start your GPS, counting laps is difficult!.

Keep to the inside of the circuit unless overtaking another rider.

When overtaking please ensure you leave a gap of at least 5 metres (3 bike lengths) before moving back to the inside line. This is to ensure the overtaken rider does not draft from you.

Grades are used to set the release order. A Grade is released last.

Top 3 overall podium spots will be decided by handicap time rather than your outright time. Handicaps are set from Twilight TT Training and previous 10 mile TT races. Team's are not eligible for the podium.

You can sign up for a 4 week free trial licence if you don't hold a current Lifestyle or Race licence:
